How do I get started in music entrepreneurship?

I’ve gotten this question before and I do think it’s an important one.

It’s easy to feel like there’s a lot to do in bringing an idea to life.

There are obviously some mental blocks we need to overcome to get moving in the direction of our dreams.

So here are some mindset tips to help you get to your first steps.

Are You Scared?

Fear is completely normal when you’re trying to do something new. But as they say, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Maybe your idea sucks. Maybe it doesn’t. The only way to know for sure is to go into it like a mad scientist, experiment, and see what works.

And if for some reason you think you’re going to be the next Mark Zuckerberg you’ve got nothing to worry about there. Most of us aren’t innovative geniuses, and there’s nothing wrong with that!

The wrong assumption we often make is that we are geniuses and need to hold onto our ideas for dear life! But then we end up doing nothing with them…

Plenty of people have already blazed trails for you, and that means there are innumerable successful models for you to follow. You’d probably be better off going with something proven than trying to reinvent the wheel.

Are You Feeling Like You Can’t Do It?

I’m quite upfront about the fact that I’m no one special.

I’ve been able to accomplish a lot of cool things by getting on the path and staying on it, but I was also met with repeated, crushing, disheartening failures.

The only reason I have what I have today is because I just kept at it.

And the truth of the matter is that none of that is as scary as it sounds. There were plenty of moments that were terrifying beyond belief. But over time, much of it fades into the minutia of life.

If I can do it, anyone can.

Are You Feeling Overwhelmed?

The truth is there aren’t a million steps to take right this minute. At any moment, there is only one step to take.

Life does not exist in the past, present, and future. It only exists in the present. Recognize the power of being in the moment.

This is important, because it means the only thing you can deal with is the here and now. It’s a funny system, but God must have made it this way for a reason. You can’t rewind. You can’t fast forward.

There’s nothing to be overwhelmed by when you see nothing happens in a vacuum.

Maybe today you could build a website. Or share your idea with your target audience. Or register your social media accounts.

The next steps tend to reveal themselves once we’ve taken our first steps. And our first steps are always simple.

If you’re worried about your idea being stolen, again, go back to what I said about Mark Zuckerberg. You’re probably not going to be coming up with something new, and trying to do so might even be detrimental to your success!

Do what someone else has done, and put your own spin on it.

Just Get Started…

I’m not trying to be a jerk when I say this, I honestly think it’s the best advice I can give.

Your best bet is to just get started.

As any good coach will tell you, they can’t steer a parked car. They can only guide one that’s already in motion.

Are you in motion? If not, I can’t help you. I can only present you with hypotheticals and ideas. And I’m not saying speculation is bad. When I sit down to journal, I often “speculate” on what might be next for me in different areas of life.

But I move from speculation to action rapidly, and you’ve got to do the same. Speculating indefinitely won’t accomplish anything.

And that’s why I wrote The Music Entrepreneur Code. If you’d like to discover how to get started, stay started, and bring your idea to fruition, you’ve got to check it out now.
